E. coli vaccine
A vaccine that targets Escherichia coli O157:H7 has been granted preliminary approval by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
The E. Coli virulent strain had caused serious problems in 2006 by contaminating fresh produce and the possibility of controlling E. coli spread means good news for health organizations and food-related industries. The Canadian scientists who developed the vaccine claim that it reduces the shedding of E. coli O157:H7 in cattle’s manure by up to 70%. The U.S. Department of Agriculture also is studying the vaccine.
