US Religious Leaders Unite to Confront Global Warming
Episcopal, Catholic, Jewish and
evangelical U.S. religious leaders agreed on the need to confront
global warming. The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding
bishop of the Episcopal Church and a former oceanographer, stated
that most religious people have reached accord on the need to act.
However, Russell Moore of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
said that although Baptists favor environmental protection, "Many of
us ... are not convinced that the extent of human responsibility is
as it is portrayed by some global warming activists, or that the
expensive and dramatic solutions called for will be able ultimately
to transform the situation."

Religious leaders assert need to act on climate
Being good stewards of God’s
Creation calls us to take care of the Earth. Global warming is a
real threat that affects fauna, flora and resources. Factory farming
contributes 17% of global warming gases and causes tremendous misery
to billions of animals every year. A plant-based diet would help
fight global warming and to alleviate the suffering of animals
raised for food.
