US Religious Leaders Unite to Confront Global Warming

Episcopal, Catholic, Jewish and evangelical U.S. religious leaders agreed on the need to confront global warming. The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church and a former oceanographer, stated that most religious people have reached accord on the need to act. However, Russell Moore of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary said that although Baptists favor environmental protection, "Many of us ... are not convinced that the extent of human responsibility is as it is portrayed by some global warming activists, or that the expensive and dramatic solutions called for will be able ultimately to transform the situation."

Being good stewards of God’s Creation calls us to take care of the Earth. Global warming is a real threat that affects fauna, flora and resources. Factory farming contributes 17% of global warming gases and causes tremendous misery to billions of animals every year. A plant-based diet would help fight global warming and to alleviate the suffering of animals raised for food.
