The Pope’s Environmental Plea
Pope Benedict, at the end of his
holiday in Italy this month spoke about humanity's responsibility to
take care of God's Creation. He said, "This obedience to the voice
of the Earth is more important for our future happiness ... than the
desires of the moment. Our Earth is talking to us and we must listen
to it and decipher its message if we want to survive." In April the
Vatican sponsored a scientific conference on climate change and
reminded people that willfully damaging the environment is sinful.

Listen to Earth, Pope says in Environmental Plea
Religious leaders around the world
are realizing that our actions have consequences on Creation and
much of their focus in on climate change while failing to see the
monumental suffering we unnecessarily inflict on animals on a daily
basis. It’s our hope that religious leaders take a stand for God’s
animals and realize that the way we treat them reflects our Faith in
Christ.
