Tough Penalties for Processing Downer Cows
Yesterday, a team of senators introduced legislation to impose
tougher penalties, including the permanent closure, for companies that
process downer cattle. The legislation states fines for first-time
offenders, a one-year suspension in operations for second-time
offenders, and finally third-time offenders would be shut down
permanently. Senator Feinstein said, "Companies responsible for this
kind of activity shouldn't just receive a slap on the wrist,"... "The
safety of our food supply cannot be taken lightly."

Risky cattle use needs tough penalty - US lawmakers
Tougher laws are indeed needed for companies or individuals who cause
harm to any creature, human or animal. While the health of consumers is
certainly very important, it's still appalling that the issue of animal
cruelty is still very much a low priority, or not even in the radar, of
legislators.
