Agriprocessors Faces Child Labor Charges
After PETA released a video showing workers hacking the necks of conscious cows at Agriprocessors, the largest producer of kosher meat, the most massive single-site immigration raid in U.S. history took place (389 illegal immigrant workers were detained when the plant was raided this past May). Now, Agriprocessors, its owner and administrators, were each charged with more than 9,000 misdemeanors involving the hiring of minors including children younger than 16 handling dangerous equipment such as circular saws, meat grinders and power shears.
Besides the appalling cruelty inflicted on God’s animals in today’s slaughterhouses, other laws are also violated - such as the one above - that affect workers and their families. By supporting these industries we are supporting human abuse as well. An effective way to take a stand is to transition to a plant-based diet.
