The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has voiced its disappointment after the High Court in the UK upheld a regulation amendment that gives the Rural Affairs Secretary the authority to order ventilation shut down at chicken farms in “exceptional circumstances,” such as in the case of a bird flu outbreak, in which case death would result from a combination of overheating, disease and lack of oxygen, with birds taking up to a day to die.
