Controversial Ag. Bills in Michigan
August 2009: Two controversial bills were passed last week by the House Agriculture Committee in Michigan. H.B. 5127 and H.B. 5128, which deal with comprehensive standards for farm animal care, are supported by Michigan Farm Bureau and 13 other agriculture groups and opposed by the Humane Society of the United States among others.
H.B. 5128 would put into law voluntary industry guidelines for farm animals’ care, ranging from how much living space they need to slaughter practices.
