Downer Pigs in CA Banned from Food Supply
A federal appeals court has banned the sale of pork products made
from pigs that were too sick to walk before they were slaughtered.
Although the meat industry is trying to find loopholes and plans to
appeal this new regulation, Jonathan Lovvorn, vice present of the
Humane Society of the United States, said the court "upheld the
state's right to protect consumers from sick, disabled animals in
the food supply, and to protect animals from horrific abuses."

It is unimaginable the pain and suffering that factory farmed
animals endure throughout their lives. The percentage of downer
animals in the meat industry is appalling, and the profit squeezed
through these animals is beyond callous and unethical. It is time
that we acknowledge that as long as meat is part of our diets,
billions of God's farmed animals are going to suffer unnecessarily
every year.
