Most people think of "soul food" as dishes like barbecued ribs,
fried chicken, pork chops, ham, black-eyed peas and cornbread.
However, according to Ishmael Shakur, a black American who chooses
to eat a plant-based diet, foods containing animal products are not
"soul food" but are actually soul destroyers. Ishmael is among the
growing number of black Americans who have adopted a compassionate,
healthful plant-based diet that "... adds to your spirit, gives you
energy, gives you life, and helps you feel vibrant."

Kudos for everyone who understands that food not only nourishes the
body but also the soul!! It’s not possible to ingest the products of
terror, pain and death and believe they don’t affect our essence or
our spirit in a negative way.
