Christian Vegetarian Association Presents:
Take Heart!
Turning People into Cows

A new study led by Stanford’s Jeremy Bailenson allowed people to experience to a small extent what it feels like to be a cow led to slaughter. Baileson had participants walk on hands and feet while wearing a virtual reality helmet. These participants saw themselves as bovine on a virtual reality mirror while being prodded to a slaughterhouse. "As the animal was jabbed with an electrical prod, a lab worker poked a volunteer’s side with a sticklike device. The ground shook to simulate the prod’s vibrations. The cow at the end was led toward a slaughterhouse."

Empathy is crucial if we want to relate to God’s animals in a compassionate and loving way. Unless we realize that the animals raised for food are sentient beings who are capable of suffering, we will continue to see them as mere commodities, which in turn alienates us even more from our true nature. After all, we are connected by the divine love, who is the Creator of everything, including animals.
