Second NYC School Goes Veg!

New York City’s Peck Slip School (PS343) in lower Manhattan announced it has gone vegetarian, thus becoming the second school in NYC to serve only veg meals. The school’s new all-veg menu is loved by parents and students alike.

According to Principal Maggie Sienna: “We decided to implement the vegetarian menu because of the health benefits of a diet including more legumes, vegetables and whole grains and our concerns about the environmental impact of meat production. As it turns out, the vegetarian dishes are pretty delicious, too — we are seeing more kids trying and liking chickpeas, brown rice and whole wheat pasta — kale salad was a huge hit.”

Kudos for these two NYC schools, which upon learning about the environmental, health and animal concerns linked to the animal agriculture industry decided to do what’s right and serve only vegetarian meals. This sets a great precedent that we hope many schools follow soon.
