Our Silence About Animal Abuse Promotes Abuse of Humans
Comments by Frank L. Hoffman - 27 Aug 2003

Dear Tev and Others:

You seem to hit the nail on the head when you asked:

"We seem to want our fellow Christians to be aware of the brutality of modern animal husbandry, but will they listen if they don't understand it via "sin identification"?"

If we go back to the article that started this discussion for a moment, I believe it will shed some additional light on the subject. Hashell, even when she was young realized that what her father was doing was wrong.

To brutalize any living being is wrong because it goes against Jesus' teachings and examples of love, compassion and peace. To knowingly commit such brutality, or go along with, or turn a blind eye to the acts of others who commit these ungodly acts makes it a sin, because it is known to be wrong.

Most people who eat animals and their by-products don't want to know the truth of the horrors behind the meal on their plates. We almost always get the initial response of "Don't tell me. I don't want to know." To me, that is being just as cowardly as the people we are told about in Revelation 21:8, which makes their actions sinful.

In the Love of the Lord,
