Animals as Food

Dear Alan:

Thank you for your inquiry. We’ll do our best to help.

The Bible doesn’t address the issue of how carnivorous animals came into being, and the first mention of them only appears after the Flood. So that answer remains a partial mystery.

On the other hand we are told that in heaven or in the new heaven and earth, that there will be no pain or death, so we know that animals eating other animals was never a part of God’s creation or heavenly will, and that it will end.

If we look at Isaiah 11:6-9, we are really told the reason and the solution to all these forms of corruption and death. Verses 6-8 tells us that all the animals will come together (carnivorous and vegan) and that they will once again all be vegan, and that even a little child would not be harmed by a formerly poisonous snake.

Then in verse 9, we are told that they will no longer hurt or destroy because the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, which is without measure. This passage also tells us why this corruption exists today, because the earth is not as full of the knowledge of the Lord, as most religious people think it is. And, if we look forward to verse 10, we see that this won’t happen until the people once again return to God (the root of Jesse).

No death is acceptable to God, and all death is against His creation and heavenly intent. It is part of this corrupt world that we are to work to end as peacemaking children of God.

We hope this helps.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
