Dear Benjamin:

Thank you very much for writing, and for telling us a little about your background.

For the most part we agree with your understanding of the pre-Flood period, except there is some indication that people from the time of Abel and further genealogy that some people herded animals, which could indicate that some people ate animal products against God’s creation intent and heavenly will.

Actually, there seems to have been plants already growing after the flood waters began to recede. Do you remember that Noah sent out a dove and it came back with a leafy branch? Furthermore, there were not enough animal to feed everyone, and the grazing animals would have had to eat the grass in the dry land. Please take a look at two of our commentaries:

And we agree that diet played a large part in the decline of human longevity and sickness.
