Dear Frank,
Re: "the right not to be used, exploited, or destroyed by humans."
I think this is still too vague - 'used' - donkeys are necessary in many parts of the developing world, pets are used to provide companionship, we have dogs for the blind, sniffing out drugs, etc - I don't see that as too exploitative, as they do get exercise etc - 'exploited', yes, it is a negative word for a negative thing - 'destroyed' - what about euthanasia to avoid great suffering, etc?
As for the welfarists - could it not say that that is good but rights are better, or a stage further or something, rather than taking a swipe at them?
