Frank L. Hoffman Interviewed: God Bless America
Answer by Frank L. Hoffman - 12 Mar 2003
Dear Colin and Others:
Following the terrorist attacks on the United States (9-11) there was an initial deep sense of mourning, and rightly so, that was shared with people from all over the world.
Then the mood began to shift to one of nationalism and flag waving, coupled with fear and revenge which was encouraged by both the government and media. People began competing to see who could have the most and largest flags flying from their cars, trucks, homes and businesses, and with it we began to see a lot of hypocrisy sung to the tune of the hymn of God Bless America.
The vast majority of ethical vegans with whom we've become acquainted are true peacemakers. They are truly pro-life. They are against war, capital punishment, human abortion, the killing of animals for food, clothing and pleasure; and they seek to preserve the environment, which is everything that peacemaking children of God are supposed to do, and for whom the whole of creation anxiously awaits (See Romans 8:18-25).
How could people ask God to bless America, if they had killing and vengeance on their hearts, with no sense of love or forgiveness! It didn't make any sense! As a result, I had sorrow added to my already troubled soul, because of the hardness of heart that could kill so easily. I expressed some of my feelings in my wake-up call closing message to my emails and on many of our web site documents in the following prayerful message:
"If we REALLY want God to bless America and the earth, GO VEGAN!"
In the Love of the Lord,
Frank
