Comments by Frank and Mary Hoffman - 19 Jul 2008

In Reference to: 1 Feb 1998 - In the Image and Likeness of God

Dear John:

Thank you very much for your comments.

My comments were meant in the context that God is not present in sinful acts or situations. This doesn't exclude the presence of the Holy Spirit in this fallen world, which resolved the Seth issue.

As the sermon states:

Since God is love, then the image and likeness that should be evident in our lives is love: total, absolute, and unconditional love.

Anything else builds walls between us and God, but love demolishes the walls we have built in the past.

When we harden our hearts or turn a blind eye, for example, to the horrendous suffering of billions of farmed animals, we build these walls to the point where God is no longer a part of our actions. This is one of the reasons that the Jewish sages never had a prayer or blessing for flesh, as they did for other plant foods.

We hope this clarifies the point we raised in the sermon.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
