Pastor Frank Discusses Animal Liberation Prophets

Today Vegan Pastor Frank talks about how we are called to be Animal Liberation Prophets. He shares a wonderful example of how hardness of heart can begin the first time a person hunts and kills one of God’s creatures. Before that moment, there is still a first tenderness—the natural hesitation, the discomfort, the sorrow, the awareness that a living being who wanted to live has been stopped by human hands. But if that sorrow is pushed down, mocked, ignored, or covered over with pride, tradition, or the praise of others, something sacred in the heart can begin to close. The person may learn to call violence sport. They may learn to call death success. And they learn to "enjoy" the corruption of their original God-given and more tender heart. They may learn to look at a creature and no longer see a fellow being formed by God’s love, but only a target, a trophy, or a meal. This is how desensitization works: not all at once, but through repeated refusals to feel what our soul first knew. And perhaps the way back for these people lost in the violence begins by remembering that first time—before the heart hardened, before the mind justified, before the creature’s fear and suffering became invisible.
