The forthcoming Peaceable Kingdom is a vision of creation healed — a world where we shall no longer hurt or destroy, where weapons of war are turned into farming instruments (Isaiah 2:4), and where creatures and children shall live in peace (Isaiah 11:6–9). For each of us who is currently modeling and living this lifestyle now through faith-based ethical veganism, this song is for you. For those not yet doing so, I pray that the words that follow in this description, or the lyrics themselves, may speak to your heart, and that you too will soon join us in peace.
It is such a blessing to understand that our daily decisions within the world are not just about what we purchase, eat, and use; they are about asking whether our daily choices reflect the world’s violence or our Creator’s mercy and loving-kindness. Most of us were born into a culture that taught us that various levels of violence and killing were, and are, normal and part of what we “have” to do on earth. Thankfully and gratefully, many of us are starting to awaken to the deeper peace and joy in the Lord that come from walking away from such a lie. The world will scream, “Violence toward one another and toward the creatures is both a normal part of the circle of life and/or something we cannot abstain from as fallen humanity!” But we know the truth through awakening, embracing, and living it. The truth is not only evident in our choices, but also noticeable in our increased health, well-being, energy to do His will, and joy in Him.
Over the last several decades, many countries have seen an increase in the number of people who are abstaining from participating in violence against one another and the creatures — even as the world becomes increasingly violent. We thankfully know that to pray, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” means that we also must be willing to ask how our own lives can become less harmful, more compassionate, and more aligned with God’s peace for all creation.
Peace be with you.
