"Haagen-Dazs (a clever Scandi-sounding name invented by Americans in
1961) was bought for its Euro-sounding sophistication by the kind of
Americans who first bought those Mercs and Beemers, while Ben & Jerry's (now
owned by Unilever) brought a post-hippy sensibility to bear. Buyers saw the
brand as saying 'all-natural, organic and Fairtrade.'"

The marketing effort of dairy producers to sell raw or organic milk as
being healthier for human drinkers has always been a scam. Now, a group of
researchers at North Carolina State University have proven that organic milk
is not even healthier for calves than non-organic milk.
The August 2013 issue of the Journal of Dairy Science included a study that
compared cow health and milk quality on North Carolina organic farms to
conventional dairies. Here is what they found after examining 4,793 milk
samples and checking the health of cows:
"The benefits of consuming raw milk are illusory, but the painful costs
of illness and death are very real."
