A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Facing the Truth - 3 Feb 2006
By Mary T. Hoffman

In my opinion, the deception and cruelty that are part and parcel of animal agriculture, hunting, circuses, and much other animal exploitation of God’s creatures can only have their origin in the devil (evil one, Satan). To take pleasure in killing or abusing any creature in any way is an abomination.

I often wonder how a person can claim to be a born again Christian, with the Holy Spirit residing in his or her heart, and continue to kill when it is not absolutely necessary for survival. To kill for “sport” or greed is anti-Christian.

How do animal exploiters read the Bible? I wonder who is blinding them to God’s truth? The only answer that I can find in the Bible is Satan, the father of lies, also called “…the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.” (Ephesians 2:2) NASB

Jesus says in John 8:44-47:

44. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

45. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!

46. Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?

47. He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God." NIV

In John 8:32, Jesus says “…and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” NASB

It’s time we all started facing the truth.
