A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Pop Music of the Fifties – 17 June 2006
By Mary T. Hoffman

One of today’s TV fund raising programs for the local PBS (Public Broadcasting System) station featured songs that were popular in the 1950’s.

Presented were familiar songs and the singers who made them popular. Some of the participants were brought out of retirement especially for this PBS fundraiser. Others were shown in their original black and white TV presentations. The enthusiastic, mostly mature audience, televised during this nostalgic musical journey, was most appreciative for this opportunity to revisit the good old days.

Just to name a few of the performers, there were: Patti Page, Rosemary Clooney, The McGuire Sisters, Perry Como, The Four Coins, The Four Aces, and The Crew-Cuts. (They no longer sport that hairstyle that was so popular back then!)

Among the many songs performed were: On Old Cape Cod, Shangri-La, Earth Angel, Three Coins in the Fountain, Love is a Many-Splendored Thing, Tennessee Waltz, and Magic Moments.

It was fun to take a few minutes out of my busy day just to wander down memory lane!
