"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
This swelteringly hot morning I saw a chickadee and a goldfinch in one of
the tall evergreen trees in our front yard. Seeing these birds together
resulted in my writing this little poem:
A Goldfinch and a Chickadee,
A doubly welcome sight,
Landed in our tree
After their busy flight.
Though they seem unaware
Of the oppressive heat,
Their families need care –
Obligations to meet.
“Bird-brain” folks sneer,
Though wars they fight
While full of fear –
No end in sight.
But lessons we learn
From birds, we’ll find,
Will help us earn
Some peace of mind.
