A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

’Tis the Morning after Christmas
By Mary T. Hoffman
(Written 26 December 2006)

’Tis the morning after Christmas,
And I crawl out of bed
Only to discover
The euphoria’s fled.

Gift boxes and bows
Arranged in a pile
Remind me of yesterday
And bring on a smile.

The excitement is over
But deep down inside
The message of Christmas
Will never subside.

For the meaning of Christmas
Is not measured by things
But only the peace
That the Christ Child brings.

So, at the dawn of each day
I’ll renew my commitment
To help those in need –
That’s true joy and contentment.

For humans and animals,
Their pain to relieve
Through love and compassion,
Christ’s peace to receive.
