A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Clutter – 16 January 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Clutter has become a very popular topic. There are rental storage spaces springing up all over the country; and classes, TV programs, and magazine and newspaper articles teaching clutter control.

I must admit that I probably fall into the category of “clutterer.” I’m emotionally attached to my old books and certain magazines, such as The Animals Voice Magazine and National Geographic. But I haven’t fallen far enough into this trap to require a rented storage locker.

As I sat down to write this Blog on the subject of clutter, some Bible scriptures came to mind in which Jesus, as He is sending off His disciples to teach, tells them to take a minimum of things with them:

Matthew 10:9-10 9 Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; 10 take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff….

Mark 6:8-9 8 "Take nothing for the journey except a staff – no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9 Wear sandals but not an extra tunic.

Luke 9:3 3 "Take nothing for the journey – no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra tunic. ~ New International Version

I don’t know about you, but I would find this advice very difficult to follow!
