A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

The Humor of Dan Piraro – 5 July 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Do you like to laugh? Believe it or not, I enjoy humor J – especially Dan Piraro’s. If you haven’t read his funny commentary on things veg, you don’t know what you’re missing!

Here’s a vegan who can take the unvarnished truth and hard facts about the predicament of animals and present it so that you say, “Yes, that’s the way it is!” What can I say – the guy is brilliant!

Dan Piraro’s hilarious article in the July/August VegNews Magazine is a must read and enjoy, especially if you or someone you know is dragging their feet about going vegan. No cowardly, mealy-mouthed hiding of the truth here. I was overjoyed to see that he tells the truth about dairy and about so-called “free-range.” As Piraro says, “The rightful owner of the milk you’re drinking is languishing in a wooden box with a chain around his neck.”

I also love the comments in the parting paragraph of his article “Vegetarian Suicide”: “If you’re vegetarian for health reasons, take that [vegan] step even faster. You’ll look and feel better in no time. So some heart surgeon will have to wait another few months to buy that yacht – he’ll get over it.”
