A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Hard Frost Warning – 28 October 2007
By Mary T. Hoffman

Well, it’s that time of the year when we try to bring in vulnerable plants before the word “frost” appears in the local weather forecast. Actually, “hard frost” is the description used for tomorrow morning’s expected weather.

Right now, chilly gusts of wind are blowing more leaves off the trees. Most of our outdoor chores are done, and we can look forward to winter weather.

Here’s something I wrote in anticipation of this autumn’s first local frost:

Hard Frost Warning
By Mary T. Hoffman
(Written 28 October 2007)

The weather forecast warns “hard frost”
While chilly gusts of wind are heard
As autumn leaves are blown and tossed
And nowhere do I see a bird.

Many flock to warmer climes,
But others choose to stay right here.
They seem to hope that wintertime’s
A little milder for this year.
