"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
Since 2004, Frank and I have been keeping a record of our food costs. We keep track of how much money we spend on food each week; and that’s been averaging approximately $4.55 per person per day; that includes exotic fruits and any healthful vegan food we like – no skimping.
Our favorites – lentils, beans, brown and basmati rice, romaine lettuce, broccoli, collard greens, carrots, et cetera – also happen to be far less expensive than animal products. Not only are the health benefits enormous, we save even more money by taking no medicines at all (not even aspirin!) and avoiding the medical bills so many others have – particularly at our age.
So this is a win-win situation: We save money and have a clear conscience knowing that we do not contribute to the suffering of other animals. Going vegan is one of the best things we’ve ever done!
