“Plant-based Power – Vigor, victory, and the vegan edge: For elite
athletes, triumph begins in the kitchen” is an excellent article by
Angelina Drake in the latest issue of “VegNews” magazine. Do yourself
a favor and read it, if you haven’t already done so.
Frank and I have been aware of the benefits of a whole-food vegan
lifestyle for over 20 years. It’s about time the public starts looking
at the facts and abandons the old myths regurgitated by the meat and
dairy industries.
As the saying goes – “the proof is in the pudding” (vegan pudding, of
course! J)
With top athletes in extreme sports achieving such phenomenal results,
can you imagine how the health of the average person would improve if
they were to switch to a healthful vegan diet? Add to that the money
saved – at a time when practically every day the media mentions the high
cost of “health care.”
Brendan Brazier, professional Ironman triathlete, says this about a
whole-food vegan diet: “It opens up a world of all kinds of different
types of foods…Your body is meant to be active and to be vibrant; it’s
more extreme not to.” According to Brazier’s estimate, professional
athletes could prolong their careers by three or four years by adopting
a whole-food, plant-based diet.
Other vegan athletes and their achievements covered in this article
are Tim VanOrden, Cat Johnson, Maureen Shea, Craig Powers, Robert Cheeke,
Mac Danzig, Christine Vardaros, Jane Black, Ruth Heidrich, Kenneth
Williams, and Carl Lewis.
