Kitchen Counters – 7 March 2008

A local weekly “freebie” newspaper features a “Health” article in every issue. This week’s article, about “dangerous bacteria, such as E. coli” breeding on kitchen counters, was really an ad for a brand of nonporous surface material for countertops.

What is not mentioned is the role that animal-derived products play in this contamination that we hear so much about. I’ll tell you where it’s coming from: it’s coming from animal feces – that’s right – poop, which contaminates the flesh during the horrendous slaughtering process. Even some TV ads about anti-bacterial cleaners fail to mention the origin of these bacteria. When you stop to think about it though, this is understandable: After all, the sale of such products depends on the public’s fear of cross-contamination; and as long as people keep bringing animal products into their homes, they run the risk of illness from such contamination.

This is just one more reason to Go Vegan and stop putting your hard-earned money into the pockets of these exploiters of human and non-human animals.

"Joyful Curmudgeon"
An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
