A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Earth Day – 22 April 2008

Please visit http://www.all-creatures.org/heart/blog-20070422.html, which I wrote for Earth Day 2007.

With this year’s Earth Day hype, the media’s avoidance of one major truth is appalling. I’m referring to the fact that 18 percent of all greenhouse gases come from farmed animals; that’s more than all forms of transportation combined – world-wide. Also conveniently ignored is the fact that the methane gas produced by cattle is 25 times as toxic as carbon dioxide.

It’s rather obvious that TV programs are beholden to companies that pay for their commercials; and besides, the vast majority of people watching these programs are consumers of animal-derived products, and they mustn’t be made to feel uncomfortable for being complicit, right?!
