A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Orthodox Christian Resurrection Day (Easter) – 27 April 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

Today the Eastern Orthodox Church celebrates Christ’s Resurrection (Easter). This date is based on the Julian calendar which was in use during the First Ecumenical Council of Nicea in 325 AD.

Western churches calculate the date of Easter (March 23, this year) by using the Gregorian calendar which was proclaimed in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII as a reform of the Julian calendar. This is partly why the dates for this holiday rarely coincide, as they did last year (8 April 2007).
