A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Eating Filth – 9 May 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

Here’s a little eye-opener:

“Up against the powerful meat industry, USDA [United States Department of Agriculture] inspectors are more and more facing hostile and even violent environments. A 2000 survey of 6 percent of the meat inspection force revealed that almost half chose not to report animal feces, vomit, metal shards, and other contaminants, weekly or monthly. A Freedom of Information Act finding revealed in 1998 that seven meat plants were allowed to operate, even after each had received more than a thousand citations.” From “101 Reasons Why I’m a Vegetarian” by Pamela Rice

With political corruption so rampant, the situation is probably worse today.
