"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Processed Meats Cause Cancer – 22 July 2008
By Mary T. Hoffman

“Processed Meats Cause Cancer – So why do schools feed them to children?”

This is the title of the cover article of the Summer 2008 issue of “Good Medicine,” the publication of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM).

We always look forward to receiving and reading their excellent, well-documented articles. To read PCRM’s online version, visit

Here are a few excerpts from the editorial “America’s Tragic Love Affair with Processed Meats” by Neal D. Barnard, M.D. –

“Every year, 160,000 Americans are diagnosed with colorectal cancer and 50,000 die of it. Over a lifetime, about one in 15 Americans develops the disease. About half of all cases are already incurable when they are found.”

“Just as preventing lung cancer means avoiding tobacco, preventing colorectal cancer means avoiding the foods that cause it.”

“It is time for change. Having invested millions of dollars in research to track down the causes of cancer, we are foolish to disregard what it has uncovered.”

“Processed meats are not the only foods linked to cancer. But our willingness to address this obvious health threat is an index to how seriously we take the health of our children.”

Well said!
