"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
“A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides.” – Thomas Paine (1737-1809) English born American Revolutionary patriot and writer
There’s much truth in Thomas Paine’s statement. Unfortunately, where animal exploitation is concerned, today’s powerful industries not only keep the evil “customs” going, they see to it that they become more and more entrenched in society. They accomplish this mainly through lobbying the government and their commercial ads. (To paraphrase Howard Lyman’s comment about government: They live by the golden rule; those who have the gold, rule!)
And let’s not forget about the so-called “charities” that fund horrific animal-abusing medical research and keep the money flowing from a manipulated public who are led to believe that the “cure” for this or that disease depends on their participation. Very few realize that their complicity in this vicious cycle of abuse keeps them from the truth: that going vegan is the answer – for people, for other animals, and for the environment which we all share.
