"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful. At the same
time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel
called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.
Today I’m writing about a few thoughts that occurred to me after reading the poem “Our Lord’s Compassion” (see yesterday’s Blog):
How can people say that they are “believers” who love God and at the same time go against the original intent (Genesis 1:29) and will of God by being complicit in the torture and murder of billions of God’s creatures? No matter how they try to excuse their actions, (for instance: that they aren’t doing the actual slaughter; that they buy “humane” animal products…ad nauseam), it’s obvious that they are doing the work of Satan, the enemy of God. When you stop to think about it, their complicity, no matter what form it takes, keeps the exploiters in business. This is not only betrayal of the other animals with whom we share this planet, but the ultimate betrayal: the betrayal of God!
1 John 2:15-17 plainly says:
15 Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
17 And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever. NASB
With such a huge variety of cruelty-free, nutritious and delicious foods available today, it is foolish to continue eating animal products. For the sake of the health of humans, other animals, and the earth there is one way to go: Vegan!
