Letter to VISA Concerning Their Support of Animal Entertainment - 25 Jul 1994
July 25, 1994
Mr. Brad Hennig, Corporate Relations Manager
VISA USA, Inc.
P.0. Box 8999
San Francisco, CA 94128-8999Dear Mr. Hennig:
We are long-time VISA customers (Account #___) who have been satisfied with your service over the years.
In any good relationship, we think you will agree, it is important to voice concerns as they arise. Therefore, we are taking this opportunity to express our deep dismay concerning VlSA's involvement with animal "entertainment" (circus sponsorship).
Besides being unfair to animals, there is real danger to humans. It is common to see in the media elephants who have gone berserk, injuring onlookers. This has happened in the nearby town of Catskill, New York. Two days ago another case of injury was reported on national TV news. Such cases are to be expected when one considers the enormous stress of the noise and confusion borne by animals so far removed from their natural habitats.
As business executives ourselves, we understand that VISA has made a mistake on this one. We all make mistakes. It's how we respond to our errors that makes the difference. Please don't compound this error by defending an unfortunate decision. It is time to cancel your sponsorship of animal entertainment.
Sincerely,
Mary T. Hoffman
