Letter from Julia McCloud about Christianity and Eating Fish - 17 Mar 2006

Hello, I recently became vegan and also reconnected with JC about 6 months ago. I believe that God did not create animals for our “use” and that we are equal. However, how do you explain why Jesus made nets full of fish appear for the poor to eat? The symbol of Christianity is a fish after all. I just want to be prepared when someone asks me something like, “If God didn’t intend us to eat animals than why are there references to fish eating in the bible?”. One of your articles may address this question however, I haven’t had time to read through all of them yet.

I love you website, by the way. I plan to make some of the recipes this weekend.

Thanks!

Julia McCloud

Dear Julia:

Thank you very much for writing and for your kind and encouraging words.

Actually, Jesus never caught nets full of fish to feed the poor. He multiplied two already dead fish and bread to feed 5,000. In reference to the net full of fish, you might be interesting in reading: http://www.all-creatures.org/discuss/john21.1-17.html

We hope this helps and look forward to hearing from you again.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
