Letter from Jaleh F. about Animal Cruelty In Iran - 29 May 2008

I am an Iranian Native woman. I love animals and enjoy reading your site every day. I remain in this country because of poor animals. There are a lot of street cats all around the town, hungry and suffering. I am feeding about 50 cats every day in my area and I have four cats at home.

There are some other people who love animals like me ... maybe about 10% of all the country's population. We are suffering in this country because it is ruled by some strangers who are treating the human beings as well as animals very badly.

They are sacrificing a lot of innocent animals in Iran for various ridiculous reasons, such as weddings, deaths, birthdays, purchase of house and car etc.

They are also sacrificing sheep/goats and cows at the start of any football [soccer] game. During the games they are painting more than 1000 pigeons in blue and red (since the two most famous football teams are wearing blue and red shirts) and they kill these pigeons during the game by cutting their heads off, shooting them, or banging them against walls.

Please ask FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) to give notice to the Iranian government that the Iranian team will be forbidden to play internationally if they do not stop this cruelty to the animals.

With best regards,

Jaleh. F.
