AN incredibly brutal event slipped by last week with barely a mention in the
Australian press. I’m referring to the barbaric sacrificing of 800,000
Australian sheep during the the three-day Islamic Festival of Sacrifice or Eid
al Adha. In 2006, Animals Australia investigators visited the Middle East during
the Eid and described a ‘‘sea of blood’’ as animals were brutally slaughtered.
They witnessed sheep and cattle being kicked, beaten, dragged off boats by
their ears and legs and tossed from trucks. They witnessed sheep being tightly
bound with twine and thrown into car boots and cattle having their tendons
slashed and eyes stabbed with knives.
