Letter to the Christchurch “Press”

Animal Experiments
From your article on the Vatican's treatment of offenders (May 8), I learned of the 2002 global convention banning torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment and punishment.
If this ruling were to be properly applied to the treatment of animals
also, I feel humanity could breathe a little easier, the use of
non-animal methods of experimentation would of necessity be intensified, and
we humans would be more encouraged to concentrate on defining causes and
prevention of our various ailments, rather than on "cures" suggested by
experiments using animals.
