Isaiah 46:4 Good News Translation
I am your God and will take care of you until you are old
and your hair is gray.
I made you and will care for you; I will give you help and rescue you.
In this world it is a fearful thing to get old. Fairy tale formulas promise a youthful appearance.
According to those who dictate fashion and make up to us, it is a curse to get old. I have always wondered how they acquired such authority that would cause desperate people to take drastic measures to retain that youthful look. It is desperate people who allow these certain individuals to have that influence and yet it takes only a few individuals to plant that desperation in the hearts of people. It’s a vicious cycle of trying to keep up with the younger crowd but losing the battle. We need to find out God’s design in this process of living.
God had something else in mind when He created us. When we do not allow ourselves to grow old gracefully we rob the youth of our experience and wisdom. We have a unique position to give what the youth cannot get without years of pain and failure; the older generation in physical or spiritual age can give insight into the struggles and situations they no longer have to suffer through. Those who have grown in most area now have the answers that the youth search for. Somewhere along the line age became a curse and it is those who are getting older who make it that way. Like it’s a horrible thing.
We were always supposed to grow old, but it was intended for us to reach maturity as healthy and strong human beings, still being a valuable and integral part of society.
God sees those who are getting older just as He sees the younger. All need to be cared for by Him and He loves it. As our bodies break down and we become a little more needy, God is ready and able to fulfill the role of caregiver. He sees only children, not older and younger, but He knows what we each need in our times of weakness. God has plans for the young and the old alike. There is no difference to Him. He wants to take care of us all of our lives. He wants us to depend on Him from birth to death.
It is a comforting thought to know that we will be cared for all of our lives as we allow God to take us through each step and each purpose. God has always had plans that do not end at our death on earth, for then we have the purpose of praising and serving Him for all eternity.
Challenge: Our attitudes about aging is wrong. If each one of us begin to change our own attitude about aging and see it as a plus in our life and as part of the natural order of God’s process then we can step into the next phases of our lives. Let go of the world’s views of aging and embrace God’s view.
God bless

The purpose of this series is to encourage people to live as loving, compassionate, and peacemaking children of God: Jesus tells us to pray, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10) God tells us through Micah (6:8), "He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God." And we know from Revelation 21:4 that there will be no more mourning, or crying, or pain, or death. Thus, Christian living requires us to set the standards of these conditions here on earth for our fellow human beings, and for the other animals, as a witness to the rest of the world. To do otherwise is not Christian.
