Psalm 1:1 Revised Standard Version

1. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

This verse warns us about listening to ungodly counsel.  God says don’t take counsel from the wicked.  When we do we are listening to the world’s or Satan's point of view.  This will take us off our path and lead us into directions that could destroy us. Earthly wisdom is polluted with deception and self-preservation.  It is poisonous and saturated with rebellion.

As we listen to godly counsel we put ourselves in line with God through obedience, which moves Him to bless us.  But seeking ungodly counsel puts up a roadblock, hindering us from reaching and receiving from God and we are closed off to His blessings. Ungodly counsel brings us to ungodly thinking, actions and behavior.

In order for us to abide in God’s will, we need to have His thinking.  When we saturate ourselves in godly counsel we are being fed the word and immersed in the Spirit of God. This is nutritious encouragement for our souls.

We cannot allow ourselves to be influenced by the world’s beliefs or standards because they are in line with our enemy’s strategy to get us off track.

We must distance ourselves from the wisdom of others who are living as the world lives.  The world has its own poisonous way of thinking and if we are not careful we will be drawn into its deadly trap.

Many Christians have a mocking or scoffing attitude because they are either afraid or cynical and end up preventing themselves from being blessed in the way God intended.  These individuals criticize the things of God and do not believe God can move the miraculous way He does.  They criticize and mock believers who stand in faith and don’t believe God will do what He says He will do.  They wound and suck the life out of believers who truly have the desire for God.  We need to keep ourselves aligned with God and His word. Only God can change the wicked heart and all we can do is pray for them and speak truth when God directs us to do so.

We must keep ourselves close to God and dedicate ourselves to listening and obeying the voice of the Lord.

Challenge:   Keep focused on the word of God and seeking out godly counsel through pastors, leaders in the church, and friends who have proven themselves to be godly and who listen to God.

God bless,

Marni

lamb-rightThe purpose of this series is to encourage people to live as loving, compassionate, and peacemaking children of God: Jesus tells us to pray, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10) God tells us through Micah (6:8), "He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God." And we know from Revelation 21:4 that there will be no more mourning, or crying, or pain, or death. Thus, Christian living requires us to set the standards of these conditions here on earth for our fellow human beings, and for the other animals, as a witness to the rest of the world. To do otherwise is not Christian.
