1) There are several varieties of Amanita fungus, which include
the panther cap pictured here. Panther caps are distinguishable by
their brownish-colored caps with off-white warts. If the cap has an
orange-red or vermilion coloration, it is most likely a "Fly Agaric -
Amanita muscaria". Panther caps are poisonous and inedible.

1a) This is an enlarged close-up view of the warts on the surface
of the panther cap.

2) This is a photo of a more mature panther cap. The dome
shape of the cap has flattened out. Note the appearance of the
others in the patch. The panther cap looks very similar to the blusher
(Amanita rubescens), which is edible when cooked, but is so similar at
various stages of its growth that we advise against eating any of the
Amanita species. We can enjoy the beauty of their creation
without eating them.

Presented here are just a few of the countless components of God's creation.
Just as we cannot have human and animal life without water and plants, neither
can we have lasting peace without love and compassion. It is our hope and
prayer that this series will motivate people to live and act in a cruelty-free
manner; that we would no longer hurt or destroy each other, the animals or our
environment.
