Poetry, Essays and Art By J.H. Dickinson from All-Creatures.orgAn old house, nested
In history
Embedded in trees and creak of old oaks
They’re cutting down trees
In a world without lungs
In rasping breath of climate devastation
They cut
The chainsaw screams
For a better view
An expanse of light
They’ve seen off the birds
And the resident pheasants
That wandered
A cacophony of assuring sounds
I am bewildered
By lack of wildness
And disregard for earthly mother
In neatness, they demand
A newness
Concreted and structured
Without symbiosis
They’re cutting down trees
Without a care
For what they have done
'I created this poem and image in response to the sad loss of some beautiful old trees and an abundant wild garden near to our house. The new owner moved in only weeks ago and the garden has been devastated, with all of the healthy trees being cut down and the hedgerow removed. In a world of climate destruction - it is madness, to say the least. All trees deserve better protections, now more than ever.'
