Poetry, Essays and Art By J.H. Dickinson from All-Creatures.orgTransport truck
Paused
By roadside
As I stand amidst
Streets of human racket
Bleats and scuffles
Those with more room
Edging near vents
Air-sucking
My throat slick
My gut twisted
My eyes narrowed
I watch those around me
To see if anyone else
Is witness
Like me
Lights change
The traffic roars
Cacophony of animal protest
Those inside - shunted
But still no one looks up from
Phone scrolling
Smart watch
Busy fettered brain
And I am rooted
Watching
Vigil
I seek an end to this
Bewildering world
Bewildering silence
An insanity
Built on distraction and hidden duplicity
I will never stop watching
