Think of the Cow
By Marion Briggs
An Animal Rights Poem from All-Creatures.org

All of God's creatures have rights, a fact that most people don't seem to recognize. This includes both human and non-human animals, but not all of them can speak for themselves.

Think of the Cow

Think of the Cow
that wails night and day.
She cries for her calf
which has been taken away.
Put to the pail, instead of the teat
So there will be milk on every high street.

Think of the calf
which has just been born
bewildered and frightened
alone in the barn.
What has he done this creature of God
That his life is condemned
Before it’s begun.
