Poems of compassion dedicated to the non-human animals who share this planet
with us and the people who fight for them.
“You shall not kill!”
(Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17)
“And the men who transgressed my covenant…
I will make like the calf which they cut in two…
and I will give them into the hand of their enemies
and into the hand of those who seek their lives.”
(Jeremiah 34:18, 20)
The Winners And The Losers
“Horses for courses,”
Say the men who like to bet.
Pushed to their limits,
So many die on race tracks -
Or are shot for breaking legs.
Getting A Kick Out Of Killing
‘Crush’ sadists film death,
For cold, sexual ‘pleasure.’
Women in high heels,
Pierce the bodies of live mice;
Spear kittens through young stomachs.
This Cow Is Not Laughing
Her calf ripped away,
This cow is not laughing.
His milk birth-right stopped -
So the weaned can eat “dairy.”
Her cries fill the air with grief.
The Premature Arrival
Sheep sent for “slaughter”
Are often pregnant with lambs.
In fear they give birth.
Their lambs suck the thumbs of blood;
Not knowing what else to do.
The Golden Rule
We reap what we sow:
Don’t harm or kill animals.
To kill is so wrong.
In eating ‘meat’ you collude.
Do, as you would be done by.
