'Within Time'
By Diana Moreton

cherry hedges glisten like silver stars
doused in a wet morn dew
dappled shadows strewn throughout
line miles of inviting walks

they sparkle and glitter
like my pink and green sequin
tap and ballerina costumes
worn when my mother's child

shine stimulates and excites me
a deep-rooted atavism kicks in
called to another place and time
filtered memories safe and fine

cows who graze on corners
i no longer casually eat
they were never my filet mignon
hamburger, steak, or meat

my equals, i've learned
now, i gladly greet
something i learned
within time
