You’d think the day your child is born would be a happy day
By Art From a Vegan Heart

You’d think the day your child is born would be a happy day.
You’ll watch them grow big and strong, and romp and run and play.
You imagine all the time you’ll spend close by each other’s side.
You’ll teach them things and show them love and dry the tears they cried.
The mother-child bond, you see, is nature’s form of super glue.
No matter what life sends their way, she’ll be right there with you.

You’d think the day your child is born would be a happy day
But if your child’s a dairy calf, things go quite a different way.

The farmer watches as you push, your baby’s coming out.
The love and joy you ought to feel is shadowed by some doubt.

For your life is one of misery, you do not trust this man.
And the moment that your baby comes, he reveals his vile plan.

He waits a bit, then he acts, your baby’s dragged away.
You scream and cry and follow him. How can this be okay?

Your baby cries out and tries to run back to your warm embrace.
But, the farmer grabs is leg and drags your baby from this place.

For days and days you cry for him, and far off he cries for you.
Bu, hey, you’re just an animal. And here is nothing you can do.

For humans think it’s justified. And still claim they treat you well.
And milk cartoons show a paradise, while you suffer in this hell.

You’d think the day your child is born would be a happy day.
